Kobe Bryant was ‘supposed’ to match Michael Jordan’s six championship rings and two three-peats last season, but instead, the Black Mamba is back in the hunt for that elusive one for the other thumb against an array of hungry young talent unmatched during his time in the league.  Kobe will need all the help he can get without Lamar Odom or Dwight Howard, so having an ally in something as ferocious as a great white shark certainly wouldn’t hurt to have at your disposal.

One of the major themes we’ve seen applied to the  Nike Zoom Kobe VII  is its ‘Predator Pack’, a set of kicks inspired by nature’s most efficient killers. We’ve seen a Christmas Cheetah, a Great White Shark and a Poison Dart Frog (not to mention the Dragon-ized Chinese New Year edition), so what about a chameleon — in this case, a chameleon car minus its green tones. February will be a month of hot releases, but none will be as significant as the Black History Month releases put forth by Nike. Here’s a first look at the Nike Zoom Kobe VII ‘Black History Month’; it features A Black/Grey colorway with a translucent outsole with a graphic print owning the entire upper as well as the inner lining. The print seen on the upper is clearly inspired by traditional African artwork, but the specific inspiration behind the design isn’t yet known

Sneaker News has started down the path toward the 2012 NBA All-Star weekend in Orlando with a growing selection of previews, most of which carry an intergalactic theme of some sorts in tribute to the central Florida coast’s NASA influence. For players like Kobe Bryant who seem ahead of the evolutionary curve when compared to the competition, the ‘Big Bang’ theme seems even more fitting on the  Nike Zoom Kobe VII ‘All-Star’ , a shoe whose graphical complexity rivals the four-pack of ZK6s released las year when Bryant and the Lakers hosted the ASG. Could we see more from the Mamba this year, perhaps something more in line with the traditional Western Conference blue uniforms?
