It was clearly a deliberate omission on the part of Nike Sportswear that sees their 30th Anniversary Air Force 1 silhouette on the outside looking into this year’s NBA All-Star pack, but one that also opened the door for the ‘other’ classic basketball cornerstone of the NSW catalog.  The Nike Dunk High Premium Quickstrike ‘All-Star 2012 Pack’ is the best non-SB thing to happen to this silhouette in a good while, a thematically expressive trio that features an array of spacey imagery along with the kind of industrial lettering you’d see at a space center or nuclear reactor.

The Nike Dunk High AC is one of those sneakers that may take a layman a few seconds of staring to figure out the alterations made from the base-model Dunk. Of course if you’re familiar with the infinite iterations and their respective initials you know that AC indicates the autoclaved sole. The wipe of traditional Dunk-tooling results in something a bit more minimal, as seen on the red and khaki versions shown here

It was just yesterday that Sneaker News brought you the first word of Nike’s plans for the  2012 NBA All-Star Game  beyond the Basketball division’s signature models, and today we already have an extensive detailed look.  That’s just how it goes when you cram a 66-game regular season into four months, and the rapid-fire revelation of ASG-inspired releases like this new trio of  Nike Dunk High Premium Quickstrikes  is something we can expect to see more of as we approach the game in just over three weeks

At a certain point in history, a vulc-soled Dunk seemed just as foreign as a cupsoled Blazer.  But this age of hybrid experimentation has given us countless configurations of trusted classics, and the autoclaved build on the  Nike Dunk High AC  has proven to be one of the more nautral and satisfying alterations in recent memory

As is the case with most of our beloved classic designs, the  Nike Dunk High  is impeccable in its original style.  The  classic two-tone upper  we came to know on the ‘Original 7′ college-inspired releases is one of those formulae that simply cannot miss, and Nike Sportswear has relied on this BTTYS-ish build for each of its spring 2012 releases.  This new pair in Action Red and black is the Bulls answer to the University Blue UNC look, together a reminder that the Dunk and Air Jordan 1 share the same vintage and traction pattern.

The black and maize  ‘Iowa’/’Wu-Tang’ colorway  is one of the  Nike Dunk High ‘s best loved looks, and one that we see pop up every so often in a new set of materials.  This latest pair utilizes the same exact blocking pattern as a pair we showed you on Boxing Day right down to the yellow tumbled leather overlay, but these end up with an entirely different result thanks to white in place of black on the underlay , tongue/laces and midsole.  It’s kind of like when the LIVESTRONG capsule started to expand its look, but before the red-infused Radio Shack looks were forced in; in other words, a welcome change on an established favorite

A couple of holiday season releases pushed the bounds of acronym suffixes when they dropped in VacTech form, but the  Nike Dunk High AC  also looks quite nice when it’s held together with tonal stitches, as in the case of the above pictured new look. These Khaki suede Dunk Highs rate very high on lifestyle appeal thanks to the classic yet freshly applied autoclaved sole supporting an upper that’s so neutral these might be your single favorite shoe of the spring.

Sneaker News isn’t in the business of perpetuating myths (you know, like the one that falsely suggests the Mayan calendar ‘ends’ on December 21, 2012), but once an idea has taken root in the public imagination, there’s little you can do to stop a meme from spreading like a virus.  The new  Nike Dunk High  ’Mayan Prophecy’  customs by ROM  capitalize on the fact that so many doomsdayers have equated the transition from the 12th Mayan baktung to the 13th with an apocalyptic end of days.

If there ever was a pair of Dunks that were for the kids then this is it. Coming with a whimsical look, this GS drop brings the spotted pattern in a fuzzy material that hearkens back to the 3′s Bears Nike SB releases .

Just over a week ago, Nike Sportswear released a new Dunk High whose black suede/white leather combo with a grey Swoosh is the kind of thing that attracts nicknames like ‘Oakland Raiders’ .  It’s not as if they’re the only team in pro sports with a simple color scheme (the San Antonio Spurs come to mind), but the frequency that shoes get the ‘Raiders’ label reflects the kind of ownership Oakland football fans have invested in their team.  Two of the three new pairs of Nike Dunk Highs pictured above meet the general criteria to get lumped in with the ‘Black Hole’ look (with another to come a bit later — stay tuned), while a royal-on-white pair completes this BTTYS-blocked trio
