Did any NBA ballers partake in what might be the biggest sneaker release day ever ? We did spot a bunch of players wearing the Air Jordan X ‘Old Royal’, but that was just the tip of the iceberg because this weekend might’ve been the most heat-filled week of the season. Jordan Crawford, who has quietly built a solid rep as a sneakerhead to look out for, wore the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Metallic Red’, while new pick-up Reggie Williams of the Charlotte Bobcats wore the Nike Zoom KD IV ‘Year Of The Dragon’

Sneakerheads had January to catch our breaths after an utterly immense spread of heat during the holiday season, but Nike has cranked it back up already to the point where it’s almost starting to feel like Christmas in February.  From the Black History Month 2012 models to those commemorating this year’s NBA All-Star Game and a bunch of key drops in between, February has brought us a ton of pleasant surprises including the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ releasing along with the rest of the ASG buffet.  Once thought to be a concept sample never to see the light of retail, this first-ever application of a graphical print to the original Foamposite silhouette keeps in line with the NASA-inspired theme, and might just be the single most impressive design we’ve seen for NBA All-Star 2012

People have always said that Foamposite was something out of this world. Using the ‘Big Bang’ theme for the 2012 NBA All-Star Game , Nike Sportswear went where no man has gone before and introduced the ‘Galaxy’ Foamposite , showcasing the colorization possibilities of the material that still stirs up lengthy conversation today.

It won’t be February’s Foamposite release because the Varsity Red Ones are just too perfect a fit with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, but the  ’Electrolime’ Nike Air Foamposite One  could indeed have been an interesting addition to the growing spread of 2012 NBA All-Star footwear. A colorway once teased as ‘Golden State’, this bright yellow getup keeps a blue ’1c’ insignia and in doing so makes us wonder what might have been had the infamous Draft Day 1993 trade not gone down

The Nike Air Foamposite series has undoubtedly been Nike Sportswear’s biggest retro hit over the past few years, and there are several solid colorways on tap for 2012.  So given that LeBron James is arguably the Swoosh’s biggest star, and that Penny Hardaway is already known to be  one of his heroes , it’s only right that we’d see King James add a pair to his impressive stockade of exclusive designs.  This  Nike Air Fomposite One  LeBron James PE goes the simplest route possible, adding a translucent sole to a black upper that’s seen LBJ’s lion insignia supplant the familiar ’1c’ Penny logo for a look that thoroughly refreshes this model in its 15th year.

If only Jason Negron made these customs back in 2004-2005, Penny Hardaway would have rocked these when he was playing for the New York Knicks. Jason Negron, the ‘re-animator’ of Foamposites, hits us over seven years after Penny’s NYK tenure with these ‘Knicks’ customs, which feature a timeless Royal Air Foamposite One with orange dyed soles and matching accents on the heel-tab, tongue-tab, and on the wavy stitched applique on the tongue. Anything Blue and Orange seems to take a shoe to another level of awesomeness, and this thorough detailing of the ‘Knicks’ custom Foamposite One is proof that there are still more Foamposites to be made, despite recent comments made by the sneaker community that the Foamposite may have seen one too many releases.

With many months having passed since the last major Foamposite release, it’s safe to say fans are hungry for another go round. Their first chance to go back to the well will be with the Varsity Red version dropping in February , which will launch us back into the Foam-madness for 2012.

Leading up to a big release for the Foamposite line, there’s always a bit of confusion regarding the exact tone of the foam on the uppers. Put simply, the molded material differs quite a bit given the lighting conditions, which we saw this year with the ‘Pewter’ colorway that had heads unsure of how metallic looking the final product would be. 2012′s Electrolime drop is evoking familiar feelings, with the pics generally showing off more of a banana yellow look.
