This past weekend’s Air Jordan X Retro ‘Chicago’ release was accompanied by a similarly blocked GS pair that opted for Violet Pop and Cyber accents instead of the traditional red-on-black look.

The Air Jordan 1 is about to be given a skateboarding makeover courtesy of Nike SB, but don’t forget that Jordan Brand took notice of the virtues of overstuffed tongues long ago. Bling has largely fallen by the wayside as streetwear has followed Jay-Z’s advice to ‘Throw on a suit, get it tapered up.’ That’s not to say that everyone in the streets is walking around wearing a three-piece Italian suit, but you’d be just as silly to argue that urban fashion hasn’t ‘matured’ to some degree, with tighter fits and traditional cut and sew items taking over where oversized technicolor tees and high-contrast outfits had once ruled the day.
