Like most of the themes and holidays we’ve explored over the past year or so, Nike’s output for Black History Month 2012 has been its most expansive so far.  The Nike Air Force 1 Low has been around the longest, and this year’s model anchors a collection that spreads its theme across four Nike Sportswear silhouettes and three more from the Basketball division

What was a concerted effort from Nike Sportswear last season has turned into something of a mystery this spring, as VacTech construction has gone from playing a major role in the holiday shopping season to now popping up without warning or a special label.  These new Nike Air Force 1 Lows are like a pair that dropped around New Year’s, both opting for vacuum construction on the rear with sewn-on toecaps and heel tabs, and neither featuring the ‘VT’ distinction that labeled a huge number of VacTech builds in late 2011

The latest Nike Air Force 1 Bespoke we’ve got a look at from Shea White has a couple different angles of inspiration that we’re sure are familiar with many of our readers. Take the ‘Sunglasses and Advil’ name given to them, a nod to an epic night of partying that shows up on the custom hangtag and the unique logo on the dubrae.

Now that Nike has officially pulled back the curtain on the entirety of their silhouettes in celebration of Black History Month for 2012, we get a little bit of background on the graphic prints that run throughout all the sneakers included in the celebration. Apparently designed with three particular athletic squads in mind (the 1996 USA Basketball Women’s team, the 2002 Brazil Men’s Soccer team, and the 2008 Kenyan Long-Distance Running team), the pattern is meant to be a colorful cross between the beads of Kenya, Brazil’s bright Carnivale holiday, and the tradition of African-American quilt making from the US South

Given the timing involved, there’s absolutely no way this shoe wasn’t going to exist.  We’re talking about the model that’s proven to be Nike’s annual Black History Month collection anchor, and one that’s celebrating its thirtieth anniversary with some of the simplest colorways we’ve seen in years.  But the  Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘BHM’  is anything but simple, even with a relatively conservative blend of grey and brown suedes plus a black Swoosh.

When Sneaker News brought you images of the upcoming  Nike Air Force 1 iD samples  yesterday, all of them depicted a tonal, almost monochromatic elephant print in a variety of colors with but one single photo depicting the classic dark-on-light grey as was pioneered on the  Air Jordan III OGs .  Here’s an expanded look at that tonal grey and gumsoled approach to the Air Force 1 Low on  NIKEiD , as well as a hightop version that goes with a translucent bottom instead.  These two are quite similar, yet different enough to demonstrate some of the blocking options available on both heights when the super-limited 750-pair run opens on February 1st at midnight eastern.

It’s strange how sneakers mature in accordance with age in a human-like manner. When the Nike Air Force 1 debuted thirty years ago , it was considered to be a revolutionary basketball shoe, giving birth to a new era of Air-infused performance basketball shoes.
