Nike Basketball released a Playoff Pack last year that went against the very spirit of some of its most successful forebears. It was Michael Jordan’s own Bulls who started the all-black playoff look, so seeing mostly white POP releases caused some commotion. This year, it’s a little bit closer to what the Swoosh did at this year’s NBA All Star Game: adding a texture as the common theme. On the POP releases like this Nike Zoom Kobe V, we’re looking at a triangle grid that adds an interesting touch to the yellow and purple forefoot sections. There’s no doubt that the Los Angeles Lakers will make the NBA Playoffs. Because of that certainty, Nike didn’t have to wait to design the Nike Zoom Kobe V for the Playoffs. This colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe V is part of a collection known as the Playoff Pack. The color choice is the obvious Lakers inspired.

What does POP means in the title? Let’s have a short quiz. I am now giving you ten seconds to think about it. Now, whether you got it or not POP means Playoff Pack. Another question would be what was the last silhouette that had the POP? Before we discuss the new colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe V, POP was previously posted for the Air Max Hyperize. Now glance at the Nike silhouette then to this page. Can you see the similarities and differences? The common feature for the two sneakers is the geometric jumble of triangles and hexagons. On Hyperize, this design can be found from the midsole fading to white while on the Kobe V it can be seen on the toe guard and eyestay. The color of Kobe V also differs with the Hyperize white/blue color-up because it has the standard Lakers’ colorway of black/yellow/purple. The Kobe V POP also has an icy outsole that peaks into the midsole. Which one is better for you?
