When you think of non-traditional enclosures, examples like the Footscape’s asymmetrical lacing system, the Reebok Insta Pump Fury and Puma Disc Blaze are probably right at the top of the list.  But none of those can hold a candle to the latest release from ever-innovative Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto ‘s long-running collaboration with adidas, the Y-3 Black Savage hightop.  Sporting a Tricolore sole with more teeth than your average hacksaw, this shelltoed boot-inspired design utilizes an elastic cord lockdown system like the one Yamamoto used on the Y-3 Sneak, another model we expect as part of the spring/summer 2012 collection

Walt Frazier did lead the New York Knicks to their only two NBA Championsihps, but he was far from unbeaten in his Hall of Fame career.  But Clyde’s classic Puma signature sneakers are most certainly Undefeated, as this latest collection of  UNDFTD x Puma Clydes  marks eight packs in the past ten months.

Last year was a huge one for the Puma Clyde thanks to the limitless UNDFTD releases , so which model from the German-born sneaker company will hit the hardest in 2012? It may be a bit too early to tell, but keep your eyes on the Puma Basket Classic City, a no-frills lowtop in the same vein as the ubiquitous Clyde. Our first peek at the sneaker for this year sees a nice tumbled leather applied to the upper in the tone of dark denim, the color which all but dominates the top half.

Do you like your Formstripes in a contrasting color, or would tonal suede better satisfy your preferences?  If the answer happens to be the latter, you’re gonna love the next set of  Puma Clyde Script  releases, a trio that reprises the same basic colorways we saw on last summer’s colorways but opts to keep the contrasts to the white sole and the newly added toecap (hence the ‘TC’)

West Coast streetwear giants Undefeated have released several of their own collaborations with Vans, but most recently, the  La Brea location  hosted a launch for another Off the Wall tag team effort.  It was last Saturday that the  Levi Maestro x Vans Vault Old Skool  touched down with considerable fanfare, and it seems the shoe’s greyscale upper has bled over into some of these recap images.

West coast streetwear giants Undefeated did a whole lot of collaborative work with Puma in 2011, and for their first teamup of the new year, the Five Strikes brand got up with the One Star on a Far East-based design that’s just as simple yet satisfying as all those ’11 Clydes.  The UNDFTD x Converse All Star Hi ‘All Good TYO’ takes a simple grey canvas approach to portraying modern Tokyo, but unlike the city’s pinball machine of neon lighting, these joints hide their flashy appeal with a reflective upper construction.

The latest shot has been fired in the weight-wars of the sneaker world, with Puma pumping out the new Puma Bolt Lite collection. The four sneakers included in the capsule are quite the update from the sort of retro fare we’ve seen from the likes of UNDFTD over the past year, proving that the German brand is still every bit a contender in the realm of modern runners. Again utilizing the black and yellow combo characteristic of the Bolt collection , even the hightop version here clocks in lighter than the Nike Lunar Flow (check the photos after the jump for proof)
