All the best things in the sneaker world come back around in cycles, be it the annual Air Jordan and Air Max series or the countless classics revived with retro release runs.  This collaboration, now in its eighth year , has some of both along with the opportunity to help a charitable cause and pick up some of the year’s most playful designs.  The  Nike x Doernbecher Freestyle VIII  is something sneakerheads knew to expect during the holiday season and our previews of the  Air Jordan IV DB  were just the top of the iceberg for this six-pair set

Nike Air + Nike Shox = Nike Air Shox. It’s a simple formula that seems to work just fine, as it was introduced first on a few Nike Runners last year, like the Nike Shox NZ 2.0 that released as part of the Air Attack Pack. Now Air Shox is used for Nike Shox’s long-awaited mainstream return to Nike Basketball, and this July 2011 will be like the early 00′s all over again, when Nike Shox basketball kicks were considered ‘rockable’ thanks to the Shox VC line and other classics like the Shox BB4 and Shox Stunner, among others.

Someone on the Miami Heat could’ve used these. Check out the super-sleek, high-end sportscar-ish Nike Shox Hyperballer in this new Black/Red/White colorway; the two-toned Black/Red upper is matched with a crisp white midsole and a full-red outsole as well as a red inner lining. The Nike Shox Hyperballer has been a welcome breath of fresh air for Nike Shox Basketball, and some have said that the Shox Hyperballer is the best new Nike ‘Hyper’ model of all the upcoming releases, as the re-tooled Nike Shox seems to gel with the tech-y appeal of Hyperfuse

Carmelo Anthony’s sneaker pedigree is one of the most impressive that we’ve seen. He’s the longest tenured Jordan Brand athlete who has his own signature shoe, but before Jordan Brand graced him with a sneaker that bore his name, Carmelo’s rocked some interesting sneakers in the past. At Syracuse, there was his Air Jordan IX PE and the Nike Shox Supremacy, and even in his High School days, Melo’s sported a wide variety of kicks like the Air Jordan III True Blue and the Reebok Answer V Low.

The world was introduced to Nike Shox Basketball when Vince Carter jumped over and cleared the seven footer Frederic Weis, for a vicious dunk in what seemingly ended Weis’ NBA career at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Carter continued to lead Shox Basketball with his own signature line, the Nike Shox VC, but now Nike Basketball is poised to revive Shox Basketball with the Nike Hypershox ; a fusion of the upper and midsole of the Nike Hyperfuse 2011 with an Air Shox unit. A cool feature of this Black/Black colorway of the Hypershox is the metallic swoosh on the midsole that changes color when viewed at different angles.

Dropping tomorrow is the Nike Air Max Penny 1 in the original Orlando colorway. The Air Max Penny 1 is long considered to be the greatest debut signature shoe Nike had ever created; juxtaposed with the Air Jordan 1, Nike Shox VC 1, Nike Air Zoom Kobe 1, and the Nike Air Zoom Generation, the Air Max Penny stands out above the rest, and with justified reason.

At the turn of the century when the Boing Boing was king, Nike Basketball pushed its all-new Shox technology as the best available Nike performance tech available, allowing Air Max and Zoom to take a quiet breather while it’s new partner gained some steam. Nike Shox Basketball did enjoy a long and prosperous life in the NBA using super-human dunk-master Vince Carter as the poster-boy
