As Nike Sportswear’s Vintage Blazer series continues to try on new looks, we get a trio of two-toned designs for ladies that represent a huge range of potential for a model that’d heretofore been issued in (color x)/Sail each time out the gate. These three new Nike Blazer High VNTG releases are also the first WMNS Vintage issues, though all but the Pink Cooler pair could satisfy either sex

The  Nike Blazer  is about to celebrate its 40th anniversary, and there’s a good reason even people who’ve never set their feet to griptape absolutely love the Nike SB drops.  The Blazer is an icon of timeless basketball style, but vulcanized soles are also a whole heckuvalot more comfy when they’re aided by Zoom Air inserts as in the case of those SBs.  And we’ve seen the  6.0  Action Sports division trot out a similar embedded  cushion made of LunarLon  recently, but what would happen if the Swoosh’s original b-ball design got a full-on tech refresh?

Stussy has enjoyed a spike in Sneaker News mentions this week thanks to a collaboration with Converse Japan and a preview from Nike Sportswear that recalls memories of a milestone teamup from a decade ago.  When the  Stussy x Nike Blazer Mid  dropped in 2002, the very concept of collaborative marketing was still in its infancy and the Blazer silo had yet to be fully restored to its rightful place in the Swoosh canon.  Just ten years later, we’ve seen the sneakerhead scene evolve in ways we could have never expected, and meanwhile, the trusty ol’ Blazer just ports these classic Stussy-penned colorways over to another (almost identical) silhouette

The Blazer High vs Mid discussion is a repeated point of contention among sneakerheads who recognize how similar those silhouettes really are, but the real question with these new pairs is who is responsible for their creation? These two new Nike Blazer Highs look a whole lot like the Stussy Blazer Mids that dropped back in 2002 when collaborative releases were in their infant stage, and their 10th anniversary timing begs the question if the Double-S will be involved in this celebration. Either way, the colorways are quite similar, and aside from the High/Mid differences (outrigger/’foxing’, Swoosh shape, etc.), it’s worth noting that these feature a tumbled texture on the upper wheras the ’02s offered a smoother leather.

Sneaker News has shown you a fairly large set of upcoming  Nike Blazer High VNTG  releases this month, each set offering a subtle variation from the formula that’d been this series foundation for about three years. In the case of the pair pictured above, it’s one of three to come  with canvas uppers  and suede relegated to the overlay sections, and that new material selection appears to have been all for the best on this new Cool Grey release.

The Nike Blazer High VNTG was introduced in 2009 and except for two leather pairs that year, followed the same formula for each of its releases through last November: add a Sail Swoosh, sole, tongue and laces to a single-colored suede upper.  The rustic shades combined with pre-yellowing on those off-white parts gave these an old-meets-new vibe, and then a pack of them apparently made of spare parts from earlier releases flipped the script just before last Thanksgiving.  A short while later, new leather pairs released, word of nylon drops to come surfaced and now just a few months later we’ve arrived at a point where just days after the first canvas-uppered pairs have dropped, here’s another duo with a brand new twist on the old recipe

Suede is so much a part of  Nike Sportswear’s Vintage Blazer  lineup that the majority of them have mentioned the nappy stuff in their official names right on the box.

A select few leather drops notwithstanding , the Nike Blazer High Vintage lineup stayed with a simple colored suede plus Sail Swoosh, sole and tongue formula for nearly three years before going with a tonal tongue/laces setup late last year.

The Nike Blazer High Suede VNTG debuted tonal nylon tongues late last year, a shift from the Sail default since the series’ 2009 inception that leaves these new designs looking more like modern classics than true OGs. Nike Sportswear has four new pairs of these on the way for Q2, all of them cast in colors strikingly similar to earlier releases, it’s easy to see the huge impact that tongue really makes. Grey, purple and yellow pairs revisit a trio of 2010 releases, while the green is an update to one of the initial trio of Vintage Blazer Highs.

Since the series launched in early 2009,  Nike Sportswear’s Vintage Blazers  have almost exclusively come in suede uppers to match the rustic look of their oxidized, pre-yellowed soles.
