The Air Force 1′s own nickname is ‘Uptown’, so it’s plain to see why we get so many colorways patterned after the Bronx Bombers each spring.  The Nike Air Force 1 and New York Yankees colors are a natural fit, a testament to each’s timeless style and their year-in-year-out contention for that number one spot.

For all those Sneaker News readers out there too young to have celebrated one (which represents a hefty majority), the reason Nike Sportswear is giving the Air Force 1 so many pearl gifts is because that’s the traditional present to commemorate 30 years of wedded bliss.

Jordan Brand can get rather out-of-the-box and creative with their colorways , but anything that can be compared to a classic Chicago Bulls uniform will always get our attention. It’s a colorway that never gets old, and in this case, it’s on a shoe that never gets old, because while we’ve seen the Air Jordan 1 in countless forms, it never ceases to amaze. This upcoming June 2012 takes the Phat mold and uses a black tumbled leather upper with a white canvas material at the center panel, with a nice contrast provided by the red/black elephant swoosh print (all the rage on the Nike Air Force 1 iD)

LeBron James was expected to follow in the footsteps of the great Michael Jordan, and although that first NBA Championship has eluded him, LeBron’s made as much of a cultural impact as MJ did. In the Winter of 2007, LeBron James played the coveted role of guest host on the sketch comedy show known as Saturday Night Live, putting on impressive performances in memorable skits like “Guidance Counselor” and “Solid Gold”. For the occasion, Nike hooked ‘Bron up with some PEs of the Nike Air Force 1 – one in a Black/Red/Yellow colorway to match the show’s iconic logo , and this solid black version with ‘SNL’ stitched on the heel

Thirty years ago, Bruce Kilgore introduced the world to Nike Air on the Air Force 1. Twenty years ago, Michael Jordan and his Dream Team-mates introduced the world to a level of basketball competition to which the rest of the globe is still catching up. And later this year, these two anniversaries collide as the Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘Dream Team’ celebrates the USAB gold medal performance at the 1992 Barcelona Games

As far as history goes, not only is the Air Jordan II is ‘up there’ among the most storied Jays in history , it’s is one of the most mysterious. A basic overview: the Air Jordan II is not a Hatfield product, but one of Bruce Kilgore’s, who set Nike Basketball to the level of sport-meets-style with 1982′s Nike Air Force 1. Some point to the Air Jordan II as the first truly distinct Air Jordan design as it was the first to carry an outside-the-box inspiration and concept (remember, the Air Jordan 1 was a mere spin-off of the Dunk); it was inspired by a 19th Century woman’s leather boot, using design lines and curves that made the sneaker appear less sporty and more towards the luxurious end of the spectrum, shedding the Swoosh as a whole and opting for a stylized ‘Wings’ logo that looked more like a symbol of a high-end luxury handbag than a basketball sneaker.
