In 2010, Nike Basketball capitalized on LeBron James’ decision to move from A (Cleveland) to B (Miami) and introduced the ‘South Beach’ LeBron 8 , which today is considered to be one of the most coveted LeBrons of all-time and one of the most notable releases of the decade. The Miami feel-good vibes returned for the LeBron 9 in the form of the Elite , adopting a similar colorway to the ‘South Beach’ that had been officially dubbed the ‘Miami Vice’ by Nike LeBron designer Jason Petrie, and anyone who calls himself a LeBron fan surely has their calendars marked for June 2nd. Nike won’t leave the small-footed kick-fiends hanging, because a similar Miami Vice colorway of the Nike LeBron 9 will also hit stores; as you can see, these are not the Elite build, but carry a near-identical color-blocking to the $250 counterpart.

South Beach was the first area of Miami Beach to be developed back in the Nineteen-Teens, but it was nearly a century later that this Biscayne Bay hot spot became a sneaker colorway. People will be talking about that ‘South Beach’ LeBron 8 for another hundred years or more, a sneaker so popular it rivals the most elite Air Jordans in terms of copycat colorways (and, one day, retro potential?).

The whole Bruce Lee theme is one that has been a distinctly Kobe thing for a while now, with plenty of silhouettes from the Black Mamba’s line borrowing the black and yellow pairing. We’ve seen one instance recently of that theme apparently bleeding over into the LeBron category with these Nike LeBron 9 Elites , a port that seems to have struck a chord with customizer Laptop LaSane .

We’ve seen some punchy designs come out of Nike iD with the KD IV model, but truthfully, the folks at Nike Basketball did such a great job at colorizing some great releases, like this White/Tour Yellow-Photo Blue release .

One of the realest sneakerhead celebs hooks up with one of the realest in sneaker customs in this Celebrity Feet feature – Wale in the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Flamingo’ by Mache Customs. Wale’s got a reputation for wearing Nikes that aren’t due out in months (or at all), but this time he connects with Mache for one of his best custom creations, which features the LeBron 9 transformed into the confetti-splattered ‘Flamingo’ that we first saw with the LeBron 8 V/2 Low . Are these customs hotter than the released version, or perhaps the Mid sample that Jason Petrie gave us a peek at ?

It would be easy to see the pink and teal accents on this new pack from Supra and write them off as yet another in a long and still growing line of ‘South Beach’ sendups . And while these do indeed carry those two colors responsible for the most notorious LeBron 8 colorup, the real star of this show is how they’re blended together along with a white base on the EVA midsoles of these new black leather Supra Skytop IIIs and Stacks

Well, looks like your wallet may have some breathing room, because the Air Yeezy 2 has officially been pushed back ’til June, and the South Beach LeBron 9 won’t hit stores until June 2nd. But does that change your mind on the upcoming Nike LeBron 9 ‘Summit Lake Hornets’ – the final LeBron 9 release until we make way for the LeBron 9 Low on April 6th and the LeBron 9 Elite on April 20th ?
