The Jordan Six Rings is a homage to all six signature shoes from Jordan’s Championship years, but lately, the colorways that have released seemed to be a respectful tribute to some of the groundbreaking materials used on Air Jordans over the years.

If any of you can remember when Michael Jordan first hosted Saturday Night Live back in September of 1991, you’d know that Bill Swerski and his Superfriends displayed a level of sports-centric clairvoyance. Bill and his pals noted that Michael would win at least eight straight NBA Championships, and had Michael not retired in 1993 as well as in 1998, they most certainly would have been correct.

Oh you thought Jordan Brand was still just making basketball shoes? It’s 2011 dummy! Michael’s empire has long since expanded its range to include casual and lifestyle offerings, and even some more rugged models like the Jordan Winterized 6 Rings shown here . The Air Jordan 6 Rings started out as a basketball shoe, but this version gets the outdoors update, with water proofing and a lug traction outsole among other added features

The Air Jordan Legacy embraced non-conventional sneaker design by introducing a number of ‘foreign’ materials like 3M-reflective material (made famous by the Air Jordan V ) and patent leather (immortalized by the Air Jordan XI ). Another unique material that has become popular across the board for Nike and Jordan Brand is carbon fiber, which also debuted on the Air Jordan XI in the form of a midfoot spring plate that gave Michael an added ‘umph’ in flight.

An all-black Air Jordan 1 Anodized released as part of Jordan Brand’s December lineup and here’s a familiar hybrid model with its own nod toward Nike Foamposite technology.  The Air Jordan Six Rings is pictured above in a black and Dark Shadow colorway that’s most notable for its use of a pearlized leather on the mudguard and heel that give these the same velvety sheen as Nike Basketball’s suddenly oft-copied Foams.  It’s a luxurious twist on a colorway that’s a natural fit for a shoe modeled after the six MJ wore in the NBA Playoffs en route to championships and you can get a better look by clicking on the jump below.  via Rstor Style: 322992-003 Color: Black/Dark Charcoal Read the rest of Air Jordan 6 Rings – Black – Dark Charcoal | New Images © Sneaker News , 2010. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us

For their latest release of a hybrid that spans Michael Jordan’s six NBA titles in the 1990s, Jordan Brand goes back to a couple of design elements that dominated the decade.  This new Air Jordan 6 Rings GS is a classic pink-and-shrink, its patent leather AJXI inspired mudguard a reminder of the single greatest season in league history.  The fuzzy tongue emblems on these seem extra fitting with the feminine colorway one that should be out early next year.  They’re kinda like th e Bred 6 Rings from summer 2008 , but are these even better for lady sneakerheads?  Click below to get a better look and stick with Sneaker News for updates on this pair and all Air Jordan release dates.  via Taobao Style: 323399-001 Read the rest of Air Jordan 6 Rings GS – Black – White – Pink © Sneaker News , 2010.

How many Foamposite-inspired Air Jordans are on the way?  We’ve seen several AJ1 Anodized colorways release already, and there’s a Metallic Black edition of the above pictured model on the way, but without the Dark Neon Royal Air Foamposite One, none of these would even exist.  It’s fitting, then, that the first Foam-like Air Jordan Six Rings release will feature that same OG Foam colorway, a definite departure from the University shade that typifies most blue Jays.  The pearlized mudguard and midsole make for a stunning contrast against the remaining black sections, and as with all good Foams, these are finished off with an icey translucent outsole.  These are slated as a Spring 2011 release, but you can see some brand new photos from in52 after the jump and if you need yours early, get a pair now on eBay .
