Were NBA writers so notoriously biased against repeat winners, Michael Jordan very well might have six regular season MVPs to go along with his six championship rings. Karl Malone won the MVP in 1996-97, but MJ and the Bulls beat Malone’s Utah Jazz in both that year and the following’s Finals, the latter of which saw Mike rock the above pictured kicks. The Air Jordan XIII ‘Playoffs’ also showed up in the ’98 NBA All-Star Game where Mike won his third ASG MVP in Madison Square Garden, so despite not being the ‘Last Shots’, they’re synonymous with greatness. Jordan Brand has been offering quite a few quality ladies releases in recent months, but with their Air Jordan 13 Retro GS drops, the bar goes even higher. It started when we previewed the Voltage Cherry AJ13, which is something like a feminized mix of the two playoff Thirteens, and we can’t help but think of Jason Kidd in the ‘Grey Toes’ when we see the above pictured pair. The blocking is somewhat different, of course, and again, any semblance of red has been replaced on this pair by pink, namely the outsole sections visible when standing. And with the white/grey/pink trio, this might be the single best palette so far in terms of matching the hologram jewel that rests on the AJXIII’s lateral ankle. This right here has got to be one of the finest Jordan Brand girls releases yet. In the above pictured Air Jordan XIII GS , not only do the ladies get subtle feminine styling, but the colorway is basically still a combination of the two AJ13 colorways Mike wore during his last playoff run with the Chicago Bulls in 1998. You get the simple colorblocking found on the soon-to-be-retroed AJXIII ‘Playoffs’ plus the black ballistic nylon side panels that appeared on the Bred Thirteens, not to mention the Voltage Cherry shade peeking out from an updated sockliner. Michael Jordan debuted the Air Jordan XIV in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, a game that saw the Black Cat absolutely dominate the ball in the last 90 seconds punctuated by a 17 foot jumper from just above the elbow that will forever be known as ‘The Last Shot’. It was almost like MJ saw the whole thing coming and broke out a brand new sneaker that would soon bear the same moniker, but we shouldn’t forget about the kicks he was wearing at home during the entire playoff run up to that point. The Air Jordan 13 ‘Playoffs’ was also Mike’s 1998 All Star Game sneaker choice, with that year’s ASG going for an MLB-style wear-your-team’s-uni-look. Some have even called them the ‘All Star’ AJ13s, but no matter the nickname, this all-black mix of leather and suede looks amazing some 12 years later. Jordan Brand has been giving extra attention to crafting quality kicks for ladies in recent months, and while these are technically a classic pink-and-shrink, there’s no discounting the execution. This brand new Air Jordan XIII GS has a vague Un-Grey Toe look to it, thanks to white ‘golf ball’ panels and grey on the rear mudguard/heel and midsole instead of the toe. Select pink accents are limited to the tongue tags and outsoles, which makes these supremely versatile, and probably makes plenty of male sneakerheads jealous considering the vast array of more masculine colors that could take their place. There are a number of ways to pay tribute to the champions. Record books certainly speak for them, but only a mere a statistics does not bring the flavor of a true champion, especially when he is MJ.
